Film producer and hiker Rachel Coffey has recently returned to Melbourne after hiking 3300+ kilometres of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in the USA. Driven by a desire to create meaningful change in the way adventurous women are represented in the media, Rachel carried professional camera equipment and filmed her journey.

Rachel grew up on the coast south of Melbourne, surrounded by great beaches and bushland. Her school teacher parents used the frequent holidays to take the family bush walking and camping, inspiring Rachel's love of the outdoors from an early age.

Rachel’s professional background is in television. She is an experienced and creative director and has made hundreds of hours of television broadcast on Australian television and syndicated internationally.

Rachel left her career in commercial television to embark on the hike, but also to create meaningful content that follows her core values: the empowerment of women, the strength of human compassion and the importance of environmental conservation. Through sharing her story and the stories of other hikers, her documentary The Mountains Are Calling aims to instil pride, confidence and resilience in women and young girls.
